The first frost of November
Of the forthcoming winter,
Readily descending in crisp beauty,
You can be lost to wonder.
The scenery so a-glow,
A sparkling show of purity
As white, which is shining,
Dominates the landscape.
You may well find it shivery,
But really it is well worth
Taking a trip into the countryside.
For the beauty you will see
Is uniquely pretty, truly lovely.
Silence fills the air
As if nothing is a-stir,
And every twig or sprig of evergreen
Is a delightful scene
Of restful tranquillity.
Nothing, no one is busy.
The world has become frozen
In time, in stillness,
A peaceful quietness lies over us,
So very good for us.
Body, soul and spirit
Can all benefit from this occasion.
Our world frozen stunningly.
Oh that life could be
This peaceful more often.
But come the warming sun,
Its day’s race to be won,
And the first ground frost,
Of the forthcoming season
Will all too quickly be lost.
Make then the most
Of the first frost of November,
And be lost to a pleasure,
So fleeting, we must value
A treasure of colder weather.
It is but one measure
Of the splendour of the Creator,
Hopefully there could be
Further frosts in store later!
Lord, frost is outstandingly beautiful, transforming everything by a white gleaming purity. Oh that our life could be the same. It would be if we prayed more readily and regularly, asking for the help we need. For then,
You come to us in the Lord Jesus, by the Holy Spirit, and life is richly blessed. Thank You for this benefit. May scenes of beauty ever remind us to pray. Amen.
